Air Guard's Noncommissioned Officer of the Year

ARLINGTON, Va. - By the looks of him, Staff Sgt. Scott Geisser seemed anything but your average "clean-cut" Airman here last week with his thick brown beard and mustache. Even so, the Air National Guard's top leaders praised him as one of the six Outstanding Airmen of the Year (OAY) for 2008.

"I think somebody said that I looked like the Taliban," said Geisser, with a smile, when asked about his unusual appearance for a servicemember.
Geisser, a combat controller from the 125th Special Tactics Squadron in Portland, Ore., is the Air Guard's Noncommissioned Officer of the Year, but he was preparing to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom during the annual OAY events last week. In fact, he boarded a plane for Afghanistan immediately following the celebrations.

Illinois Run

Hey dudes,
just thought I'd let you know of our next planned ride. I doubt that you can get away to go, but the invite is there. We are going from locally here at Fayettenam to a former unit guy's house in Illinois. He used to be our unit mechanic who just happened to be a bike fixer too. He has invited us to come up and spend Labor Day up there. He is getting an entire beef for roasting. Another guy who is the Cape Fear Harley head mechanic is going w/ us along w/ some other guys not from the squadron.

Hoping to have around 20-30 guys going up. We plan on going up Thursday Aug 28th and making it a two day drive. Probably pass by the KY guard unit and pick up Aaron May and anyone else who wants to join. Spend the weekend at our destination and drive back on Monday and Tuesday the 1st and 2nd. No detailed route planned yet. But guaranteed good time.
I imagine that w/ a sizeable group, we will probably plan on camping instead of moteling it.

I am going to let Jess Horstman know too. Hey Hurbey & McChord guys spread the word and see if there are any takers that might be in our area and want to rent and join or whatever.

By the way, I still haven't seen any pictures from the great NW loop yet.
